Northwest Native Arts Market & Festival
We went down to the Washington History Museum today where the Northwest Native Arts Market & Festival was taking place. Just prior we had gone to Hot Rod Dog, across the street, for a great chili dog and a bratwurst. It was too hot too hang out for an extended period of time. The high today was 90°, but it seemed hotter than that. There was some drumming taking place and a lot of great art being sold by vendors. The best part was talking for a while with David Boxley, who produces some of the most amazing Northwest Coast native art. We always find ourselves drawn to his prints, masks and especially his bentwood boxes. We bought a small print of his titled Killer Whale. Maybe some day we will be able to get one of his large bentwood chests. He was very friendly, taking time from sketching on a bentwood box to talk to us and let us see the photo album of some of his work, and James Earl Jones!
