Mary’s Burger Bistro

I have passed Mary’s Burger Bistro on Pacific Avenue many times while heading to and from downtown Tacoma. Each time, something about the vintage sign and the cozy-looking store front made me want to stop in for a burger. Today, I finally passed during lunchtime and went in to grab a bite. I ordered one of the daily specials, an Onion BBQ Burger, along with fries and a chocolate shake. The shake came out first, extra thick, made with vanilla ice cream and Hershey’s syrup. Delicious! It was just like my mom used to make. The fries were fresh-cut and there were more in my basket than I could eat. The burger was piping hot, a 1/3-pound patty served on a grilled onion bun, topped with grilled onion, BBQ sauce and cheddar cheese. It had a nice ratio of sauce and onions so it had the flavor without being a total mess to eat. I look forward to visiting again soon and trying one of Mary’s other signature burgers.
For those non-beef eaters, Mary also serves chicken and salmon ‘burgers’ as well as deli sandwiches.
The place seemed to be doing well. While I was there, around 12:30, there were about eleven other customers. I overheard another couple say that their son, who went to UW Tacoma, had turned them on to Mary’s and that it had become there regular burger joint. Another gentleman mentioned meeting associates there recently. I hope the Burger Bistro continues to pick up regular customers and is successful.
